Donald Trump’s reelection campaign just released a set of three ads that targeted Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi. These ads were focused on appealing to millennial and Gen X males from Texas.

These Facebook ads all started running on the same day and are identical besides which democratic leader is the face of the ad. The ads read “The democrats have become the party of corruption and President Trump is calling on you to help drain the swamp.”

The cheesy, movie-poster-like ads are accompanied by a caption that urges voters to donate to Trump to “show the president what you really think about Biden.” The ads are painting these democratic leaders in a bad light while trying to incite fear in voters by depicting them as monsters.

“After FOUR DECADES in the Washington Swamp, Joe Biden has accomplished nothing. He’s just a washed-up, career politician being used as a PAWN by the Radical Left. The fact is, Sleepy Joe is not the leader of his party. He is the helpless puppet of the Democrats. Yikes. Does that sound like someone who’s ready to lead a Country,” reads the caption that accompanied the ad.

These ads had the most views in Texas, California, and New York. Males of all age groups saw the ads more often than women of the same age. On average, these three ads were all seen around 150,000 times. Trump’s campaign paid around $4,000 for each of the three ads. On Average, Joe Biden has spent 42% more than Donald Trump on Facebook ads and Kamala Harris has spent 70% more than Mike Pence. Trump has also released other ads of the same style and that share the same caption. Depicting Biden like a character from the grudge, this ad graphic is meant to incite fear into Gen X and baby boomer men.

Trump uses a different tactic when releasing ads about himself. In this ad, https://www.facebook.com/ads/library/?id=454966765480199, Trump highlights his accomplishments with a clean-cut and traditional ad. With these ads, the target audience is still males from Texas and California. This ad reads “The U.S. economy just had the fastest three months of growth...ever,” and another ad with the same style reads “Fastest GDP growth in history.”

Trump uses comedic fear to draw attention to his opponents. The unusual ads that Trump’s campaign releases do attract viewers, perhaps not in the right ways, though. By using traditional and no-nonsense ads that highlight his accomplishments, he is appealing to older generations of voters, while his negative campaigns appeal to younger voters. Time will tell if Trump’s advertising techniques were successful enough for him to win the election.
